Self-collect testing from any location you find safe and private (home or other locations) is a convenient way you can manage your sexual health and test for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) without visiting a clinic.
You'll receive a collection kit at the address of your choosing, gather the required samples yourself following our easy-to-use instructions, and return the specimens to our laboratory by courier (for example, FedEx) for analysis.
Results are delivered securely through our online platform.
This program is available to all residents of Texas, age 13+, regardless of income or insurance status.
Begin by clicking Order My Free Kit and completing the requested information, including a little bit about yourself and a brief online assessment to determine which tests suit your situation. After providing your contact details and shipping information, we'll dispatch your kit promptly. Once it arrives, follow the included directions to collect your samples and use the prepaid shipping materials to send them back to our facility.
Note: Sometimes you may be able to pick a kit up at a physical location, like your health department, a community-based organization, or a pharmacy. In these cases, you'll still need to go online, and create your account using the process above, but you'll state that you already have a kit.
Sample requirements vary based on the conditions being tested and your anatomy. These can include a blood sample and/or swab sample(s).
Blood samples can be collected using a fingerstick (aka fingerprick) device or an upper-arm device, that once activated, will do the blood collection step for you. You'll have the option to choose what kind of device you'd like to use to collect your blood by yourself, or choose not to provide a blood specimen.
Swab samples, depending on the types of sexual activity you engage in, may be from your throat, genitals, or butt. You will be asked to honestly specify what types of sex apply to you, so we can send you the right swab specimen kits.
Your kit will contain specific instructions to help you successfully collect specimens by yourself for the tests appropriate for you.
Yes. Your doctor normally sends specimens out to a lab for analysis. You are doing the same thing.
Additionally, our laboratory maintains CLIA accreditation, meeting the same quality standards as hospital and clinic laboratories. We employ current diagnostic technology and our medical team includes licensed staff who ensure testing protocols meet clinical guidelines.
Complete discretion is maintained throughout the process. Packages arrive in plain packaging with no identifying markings related to sexual health. Deliveries fit standard mailboxes, eliminating the need to sign for packages. Your HIPAA-compliant account and results are password-protected, and we notify you via secure message when results are ready—never through text or email directly stating results. A healthcare provider will review your results, and if appropriate, reach out to you to help you figure out your next steps.
Note: Regulations require reporting certain positive results (including HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and hepatitis C) to your state health department, but your information remains otherwise confidential.
All infections have a minimum time window from when you were exposed to the virus to when our diagnostic tests can reliably detect it using the samples you provide: either your blood specimen or the specimens from the swabs you used (throat, genitals, and/or butt).
No test can reliably tell you if you have an infection if your exposure to the virus is too close to the test date. Please see the timeframes listed for how long it takes after exposure for us to be able to detect and report your status accurately:
If you think you have been exposed or are unsure of whether a test is right for you, consider visiting a sexual health clinic in your area or consulting your primary care provider.
You'll get a notification when results are posted to your secure account. Simply use your login credentials (username and password) to check your status and view completed results. If appropriate, a healthcare provider will reach out to you to help you figure out your next steps.
A positive result (aka reactive result) indicates the presence of infection and requires medical treatment. While receiving positive results can feel overwhelming, remember that most STDs respond well to treatment. Depending on your result, a healthcare provider from this program may
Should you need help finding an in-person provider, don't worry. We'll help connect you as we have access to local clinics and resources and can direct you to care quickly and easily.
Note: If you do have a positive result, it's critical to talk to recent sexual partners as soon as possible so they can also be tested and treated, if necessary. Make sure to follow your healthcare provider's recommendations on when you can safely resume sexual activity.
A negative result (aka nonreactive result) means the infection was not detected in your sample. If you feel unwell, are concerned, or need additional help, please consider visiting a sexual health clinic or speaking with your healthcare provider. Regular screening is recommended for sexually active individuals, even with negative results, as part of ongoing health maintenance. In this program, you can order a kit as soon as 3 months after you complete your current kit.
If more than 5 business days have passed since you mailed your sample and our system shows no receipt, contact our support team. Depending on the time of year, it's possible that your kit has been delayed in the mail. We'll investigate and can send a replacement kit if needed.
Sometimes we get a specimen back that didn't have enough material to work with and run tests or otherwise is not suitable for testing. Sometimes other things happen. Don't worry. We will work with you to figure out your best next steps.
You can order a new test kit after 3 months. You must use any kits that you have already ordered before requesting another one.
When ordering again, just use the same login credentials you used the first time.
